Finding Summer Reading Activities and Programs:
Check your local library. Chances are good that you’ll find summer reading programs for young readers! In Canada, for example, the TD Summer Reading Club takes place from June 13 to September 3rd. Kids can join the Club at their local library branch and participate in person or online throughout the summer.
Check your local indie bookstore, ask about upcoming events and summer reading activities.
Scholastic Summer Reading Program is another free program for kids (May 9 – August 19th) which includes a virtual Home Base where young readers can attend virtual author events, play book-based games and activities, more.
Camp BOOK IT! is open to families with PreK-6th grade students (ages 4-12) and takes place June-August. “Parents set goals, track reading and reward their students, all in our digital dashboard.” Sponsored by Pizza Hut.
Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program: Kids participating in this summer program will earn free books if they read a designated number of books. Only available through B&N stores (e.g. not in Canada, sadly).
