FAQ
I'm a publisher, editor or art director who wants to hire you.
Yay! Please contact my agent at Curtis Brown Ltd., Ginger Knowlton.
How do I commission an illustration from you?
After you give me information about what you're looking for, I'll give you a quote. Once we've both agreed on the terms in writing and I receive half the payment*, I'll come up with a concept drawing. When you're happy with the concept drawing (up to two revisions) then I'll create the final illustration and send you a high-resolution file.
*If I haven't received your payment within 3 business days of sending you the quote, I will move on to the next project on my list. If you contact me again, we will need to rediscuss the quote.
How do you determine how much an illustration will cost?
It depends on intended use (how you'll use the final product), level of detail needed, and how clearly you're able to communicate what you want in the beginning.
When coming up with a quote, I break an illustration job down into elements. An animal, figure or car, for example, would each be an element. Backgrounds would be one or more elements, depending on complexity. The more elements, the higher the quote. I would also charge more if you're asking for exclusive rights to the illustration.
Knowing what you want and being able to effectively describe what you want will help lower the quote. If I need to come up with the ideas, then this will factor into the quote.
Will I get to keep the original drawing?
All my artwork is done digitally so there isn't really an "original drawing."
What file formats can you provide?
I can provide TIF, PSD or JPG.
How quickly can you do the illustration?
It depends on my current work schedule and the complexity of your project, but most final art can be delivered within 10 business days upon approval of concept drawings. Rush service can sometimes be arranged for projects that require a tighter deadline.
I like one of the images you've already created. Would I save money if I used that instead?
Yes. You'd be paying a licensing fee instead.
Okay, I'd like to get started. What's the next step?
Please contact me with your project outline and I'll give you a quote.
