Fragor Prototype (Yet Untitled)

Gordon Lamont was at Alan Moon's Gathering Of Friends with a prototype from Fragor Games, and I had a chance to try it out.

I can't talk about the details of the game, but I -can- say that I'm really looking forward to seeing the final version! Fraser and Gordon kindly gave me permission to post the following photos of one of the fun game mechanics.

PLEASE NOTE: this is only a prototype, so appearance of the game components will be changing, plus the game itself is also a work in progress. Please do NOT repost these photos -- because Gordon was kind enough to give me permission to post these, I want to make sure they are only posted in context of all the info. Thanks kindly.

Site highlight:

For those interested in the goings-on at Alan Moon's Gathering Of Friends, the people are also posting reviews and reports. For those who aren't familiar with the site, is a great source of info about board games and the board gaming industry. From their About page:

"Here at the Opinionated Gamers, we’re passionate about games. We love to play them, we love to think about them and we love to write about them. Yes, we love our games. We’re not shy about giving our unbiased opinions, warts and all, so you’ll definitely know what we think about the games we write about here. Everyone involved with this project is doing so on a strictly volunteer basis."

Plus they feature Ted Alspach's great Board2Pieces gaming comics! Editor: Dale Yu.

Gordon Lamont of Fragor Games

Fragor Games is a publisher of Euro-style board games, and have published five games so far, including Antics, Shear Panic, and Snow Tails (the latter is one of my favourite games!).

Set up in August 2004 by Fraser and Gordon Lamont, Fragor publishes games designed by Fraser and Gordon.

Photos by Jeff. The next one was taken because I wanted to make sure Gordon's kilt was in the photo:

Check out the very cool dice badge holder he has around his neck!

Game Highlight: Airlines Europe

Eek! Can't believe there are only five days left of The Gathering.

One of the new games being played during this event: Alan Moon's AIRLINES EUROPE. Published by Rio Grande this year, the game is a revamp of Alan's AIRLINES game. AIRLINES is one of Alan's earliest games, published by ABACUSSPIELE and in print before his successful TICKET TO RIDE and UNION PACIFIC games.

See the BoardGameGeek entry for a good summary and comparison to Airlines.

I like Union Pacific, but I like Airlines Europe even more. Super easy to learn (I can SO see families enjoying this), yet complex enough with its choice of potential gameplay strategies to make it interesting on multiple plays. Granted, I've only had a chance to play it once so far but it's a game I'd like to own. Plus the little airplanes (112 of them) are darned cute.

My only complaint: I found the red and orange planes tough to tell apart sometimes when they were jumbled together...BUT that could have just been the lighting.
