FilKONtario report (Part 1)

I've been a member of the filk community for over 25 years now. I attended the first OVFF with my first boyfriend, and initially joined because I was looking for people to play music with.

I still love that aspect of filk, but these days (unless Urban Tapestry is a guest, of course) I go to filk conventions as much for the socializing as the music. Allison, Jodi and I have made a lot of friends over the years, and sometimes we don't see them except at certain filk conventions.

This year, FilKONtario overlapped with the end of The Gathering so instead of driving home with Jeff, I flew home a few days early.

Many thanks to my friend Walter for picking me up at the airport and driving me to the FKO hotel! He also picked up my FKO luggage (which I packed separately before I left for Columbus) so I wouldn't have to go home first.

As I mentioned before, attending FilKONtario always feels like coming home for me. Our local filk community is enthusiastic and friendly, welcoming newcomers and promoting filk.

I'm not able to attend many housefilks these days, but still feel a special bond to the local community, much more than I did in the past. Maybe it's part of getting older, but over the years I've found myself becoming better appreciative of what I have at home.

Don't worry -- I'll start talking about FilKONtario specifics in the next part of my FKO report.

A while ago you said you were writing a novel. Did you ever finish it?
