Portfolio Tips from SCBWI Mentorship Winners

Some of my portfolio showcase tips: have a well-designed business card, avoid too many "greeting card" type standalone images, show that you can draw a character consistently over a sequence of images from the same story, learn how to draw backgrounds even if you hate backgrounds, including images that suggest a story or that something interesting is about to happen, limit the number of images in your portfolio, limit the number of illustration styles in your portfolio to 2 (possibly 3)...but remember that so much comes down to the right person seeing your work at the right time.
